At the Vancouver Kendo Club, we foster community through both martial and social gatherings—events that forge lasting bonds beyond the dojo.
New Year Practice & Potluck
Kick off the year with a Sunday morning keiko (practice), followed by a friendly potluck meal—an ideal way to reconnect and celebrate together.
Summer BBQ
A seasonal highlight, our BBQ brings members and friends together for food, fun, and sometimes even a festive suika-wari (watermelon-splitting)—a memorable tradition.
Holiday Season Party
Our year concludes with a festive December gathering, where we reflect on progress, share cheer, and enjoy each other’s company.
These events complement our year-round training schedule and embody our values of courtesy, team spirit, and community.
Annual Invitational Tournament
Each year, the Vancouver Kendo Club welcomes kendo practitioners from across the Lower Mainland, British Columbia, and neighboring regions such as Washington State and Alberta to our annual invitational tournament. With over 200 participants, this exciting event is a celebration of skill, discipline, and the deep traditions of Japanese swordsmanship.
The tournament is organized into age categories, ensuring fair competitio n for youth, adults, and seniors alike. Whether it’s a beginner’s first competitive experience or a seasoned kendoka’s demonstration of years of training, every match is an opportunity to witness the true spirit of kendo.
Beyond the competition, the event fosters community and cultural exchange, offering spectators a chance to enjoy the intensity of matches, the beauty of form, and the camaraderie among participants. It’s more than a tournament—it’s a gathering of friends, families, and kendo enthusiasts united by a shared passion.
